Broward Center's new lounge to open Tuesday

When "The Book of Mormon" opens Tuesday at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, patrons will have a new option for pre-show drinks and appetizers.

It's called the Silver Airways Intermezzo Lounge, where for an additional $30, theatergoers can graze from a buffet that may include shot-glass ceviche, deconstructed Caesar salad, roasted-vegetable farro salad and freshly baked cookies. Guests can also tipple premium beer, wine and Silver Airway's signature pink champagne.

The upcharge gets you inside the 70-seat lounge, designed by Boston-based Wilson Butler Architects. It's part of the ongoing $56 million renovation and expansion of the Broward Center that will include the early 2014 openings of the Huizenga Pavilion, Rose Miniaci Arts Education Center and JM Family Studio Theater. Most important for foodies, the new pavilion will feature the New River Bistro on the first floor.

The lounge was fashioned from an existing lounge on the upper-orchestra level. It's more than twice the size, now opens onto a large veranda and has open-air windows onto the Peck Courtyard.

Tickets to the Silver Airways Intermezzo Lounge can be at 954-462-0222 or or 954-356-4632
