As a host and correspondent for entertainment-news shows such as "Extra," "OMG! Insider," "E! News" and "Showbiz Tonight," Michael Yo has had some memorable run-ins with A-list actors, musicians and reality-TV stars. But nothing could prepare him for an odd interview he had with pop star Katy Perry.
"During the interview, I thought she was hitting on me," he recalls. "Then, after the cameras stopped rolling, I thought she was going to make a move. But instead, she farted. It wasn't a soft one, either. It was really loud. She's so beautiful, but every time I see her, I hear that sound. It's disturbing."
This weekend at the Fort Lauderdale Improv, Yo will share some of his celebrity tales along with stories about his childhood growing up as a "blasian" — the son of a Korean mother and a black father.
"When I first started performing, I used to talk about my mom a lot," Yo says. "But now, I talk more about my dad. When I go back home to visit them, we'll look at pictures, and that's when the stories come up."
Yo, who used to host his own radio show on the Miami radio station Y100, shared with us some of his favorite spots in South Florida.
For food: Prime 112 (112 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach). "They have the best macaroni and cheese ever."
For shopping: Aventura Mall (19501 Biscayne Blvd.). "It's so big now that they've added onto it."
For massage: The Standard (40 Island Ave., Miami Beach). "They have the best mud and body mask."
For tanning: South Beach. "I don't really lay out, because I'm half black, but if I had to, that's where I'd go."
For coffee: David's Café (1058 Collins Ave. Miami Beach). "They have the best cortaditos and café con leches. You'll be jacked up for hours."
To people-watch: Smith and Wollensky (1 Washington Ave., Miami Beach). "They have an awesome view. Where else do you get to see people exercising while you're eating and drinking?"
Michael Yo will perform Friday through Sunday at the Fort Lauderdale Improv, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, 5700 Seminole Way, in Hollywood. Tickets cost $20. Go to Ftl.improv.com.Copyright © 2015, South Florida
