If you thought today should be dubbed "Saturdog" for a change, well, you would be wrong. It's still Caturday.
The second annual Caturday Saturday party, meowing at the Green Room nightclub on July 27, will be ground zero for South Florida's feline frenzy, filled with over-the-top, boozy reverence and no shortage of Internet cat memes (the almighty ceiling cat, LOLcats, Nyan Cat and Grumpy Cat are all counted).
Curating the night of paw-licking and kitten costumes is organizer Jonny Veo, a Green Room employee who founded the cat-centric celebration with nightclub general manager Brando Garcia. Proceeds from the party will head to Miami-based nonprofit the Cat Network, which locates homes for stray and feral cats.
Veo's hand in the party includes bartending, selling kitty clothing off his Kitten Empire fashion line and providing vocals for his cover band, the appropriately named Boyz 2 Kittens.
"I'm covering all the classics, like 'Who Let the Cats Out?' and even Boyz 2 Men's popular 'End of the Kitten Road,' " Veo says.
Behind the decks will be DJs TONX (nom de feline: TONXyKat) and LinderSMASH (LinderSMASHKitten), who will spin Cat Power and other artists. Green Room's second floor will have a Caturday art show featuring the works of Dibbie Jane, Jennifer Love Gironda and others, paired with an indie craft bazaar called Midnight Mar-kat.
Caturday Saturday runs 10 p.m.-4 a.m. at Green Room nightclub, 109 SW Second Ave., in Fort Lauderdale. Admission is free. Call 954-449-1025 or go to GreenRoomLive.com.Copyright © 2015, South Florida
