The Heat is on ... the walls

AmericanAirlines Arena isn't the only venue packing Heat these days.

Studio Kanter Gallery in Fort Lauderdale and the Wentworth Gallery in Boca Raton will be sources of slam-dunk artistry through the end of June, with large-scale portraits of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and other Miami Heat players currently sharpshooting in the NBA Finals. Meanwhile, down south, art of the more permanent variety can be found in the Heat-themed public murals splashed across the walls of Miami's Wynwood Art District.

Following is a list of where to find several Heat-inspired canvases.

Erika King's photo-based "Miami Heat Championship Series" collages the game-changing moments throughout the Heat franchise's history, including Wade's MVP-crowning in 2006 and the championship victories the Heat clinched in 2012 and 2013.

King says Miami Heat president Pat Riley began commissioning the NBA portraits in 1998. She has since donated them to Alonzo Mourning's Zo's Summer Groove and Ray Allen's Ray of Hope Foundation.

"I want to capture happiness and excitement and the triumph of them getting the trophy," says King, who adds she was "flabbergasted" when Riley took interest in her collages. "Pat has a good eye. He puts my paintings in the Heat locker room to motivate the team."

In "Heat 2013 Championship Collage," photos freeze on LeBron laying a kiss on the championship trophy, the team sporting white-hot Heat gear and players caught in midair poses. Those are juxtaposed with newspaper-headline cutouts bearing phrases such as "REPEAT" and "7TH HEAVEN."

"Miami Heat Championship Series" will close June 28. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday

A trilogy of gritty, large-scale acrylic portraits from sports artist Stephen Holland, of Los Angeles, depict the Big Three — Bosh, Wade and James — striking basketball poses.

"The Heat Trilogy" will close July 15. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Miami Heat Wynwood murals (various locations in Miami)

More than a half-dozen murals of the team are on view in Wynwood. They are as small as a life-size replica of LeBron's shriveled-up face (street artist 8bitlexicon's "#STANK DON'T IT," corner of Northwest First Court and 20th Street) and as large as the city-block-length "Black and White and Red All Over" (also near Northwest First Court and 20th Street), which features portraits of Wade, Udonis Haslem and others sporting game faces. Perhaps the most recognizable mural, however, belongs to Serge Toussaint's Midtown piece on the wall of the Pyke Brothers and Son Paint and Body Shop (35 NE 29th St.).
