Art and fashion met at the rooftop pool of the W Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, Nov. 18 in a splish-splashy event called “Art of Swim.”
Anna MacDiarmid, the hotel’s general manager, says the event attracted, “about 700 people and some great fashion designers showing their new swimwear. There’s a great event, DJ music, a lot of great people and just a lot happening.”
The evening spotlighted art-inspired swimwear collections by Miami designers Ariel Swedroe, Lenny Niemeyer and the Fort Lauderdale boutique Jypsea Local. VIP listers were served bites by Stephen Starr’s El Vez restaurant, which management says will open early in 2018. Starr is the man behind the W’s popular Steak 954. El Vez is named after a Mexican Elvis impersonator.
Some of those guests had a short commute, taking the elevator from the W Residences side of the property to the recently refurbished (part of a $60 million renovation) Wet Deck on the fifth floor.
“The people who live at the W Residences Fort Lauderdale get to experience events like this all the time,” says Rebecca Batterman, director of sales for W Residences. “They buy here because it’s a lifestyle. It’s all about art and music and fashion. It’s a great place to be.”
