Free Lladro event in Dania Beach gallery

Staff Writer

It will be a lot more exciting than watching paint dry.

That’s because when Lladro artist Amparo Martinez visits Dania Beach’s Gallery of Amazing Things (G.O.A.T.) this Tuesday, April 29, she will be showing South Floridians something rarely seen outside of the porcelain figurine company’s workshops in Valencia, Spain.

The free presentation and painting demonstration is from 5 to 8 p.m. Martinez will show the new colors mixtures for the line of home décor and mini sculptures as well as discuss her process and the history of many Lladro pieces.

“A lot of people here in Florida have a big love of Lladro,” says Arron Rimpley, co-owner of G.O.A.T. “We worked last year with Lladro quite extensively to create a series of events with them that were very well received.”

Rimpley added that when he and his business partner Greg Whittecar found out that Lladro was adding more color to their pieces they campaigned to have Martinez flown in for an event.

“And it doesn’t hurt that we have a museum on our second floor,” he added. “That’s where we get to go more into things like who made it and why. How did they do it? What is their process and what is their inspiration?”

Rimpley and Whittecar opened the Wiener Museum of Decorative Arts (WMODA) in January on the second floor of the 50,000-square-foot property. In addition to Lladro, WMODA features a collection of 19th and 20th century British ceramics from Minton, Royal Doulton, Copeland, Martin Brothers, Wedgewood and Moorcroft as well as glass art from Dale Chihuly, Toots Zynesky, William Morris and Paul Stankard.
