Miami Broadway season: "The Book of Mormon," "Newsies" and "I Love Lucy"

Staff Writer

The next “Broadway in Miami” season has hot hit show “The Book of Mormon” and the South Florida premiere of “Disney’s Newsies.”

The spate of musicals, brought into the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts by Broadway Across America, includes a five-show subscription package.

“I Love Lucy Live on Stage,” Sept. 30 through Oct. 5: The beloved TV show is now a live stage show and in living color. Audiences go back in time to 1952, as a host guides a behind-the-scenes look at the Desilu Playhouse soundstage while the cast tapes two oh-so-familiar episodes.

“Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella,” Oct. 28 through Nov. 2: A musical based on just how far a great pair of shoes can take a girl. Hit songs include “In My Own Little Corner” and “Impossible/It’s Possible.”

“The Book of Mormon,” Dec. 2-14: “South Park” creators took on religion and won nine Tony Awards in the process.

“Disney’s Newsies,” Feb. 3-8, 2015: Based on the true story of a band of newspaper boys who took on the most powerful men in New York in 1899, the musical started as a 1992 movie.

“Sister Act,” April 14-19, 2015: Whoopi Goldberg went from starring in the 1992 movie to producing the musical about a lounge singer hiding out from gangsters in a convent.

The series also will include two add-on musicals:

“Disney’s Beauty and the Beast,” Dec. 30, 2014 through Jan. 5, 2015.

“Wicked,” March 11-29, 2015.

Season tickets for the five-show package cost from $150 to $564. To order, call 800-939-8587 or go to
