Stars from the mega-hit TV show “RuPaul’s Drag Race” worked the stage at the Ultimate Miami Drag Queen contest June 2 at Magic City Casino’s Stage 305 in Miami. Chad Michaels, Nina Bo’Nina Brown and Adore Delano performed between categories during the female-impersonation pageant.
Fans of VH1’s “RuPaul’s Drag Race” — which includes celebs such as Miley Cyrus, John Oliver, Chris Pine, Andrew Garfield and Ariana Grande — will instantly recognize those names. Chad Michaels is famous for his Cher impersonations and was a runner-up in the fourth season. Michaels went on to win the spinoff show “RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars.” Adore Delano not only appeared on Season 6 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” but also competed in Season 7 of “American Idol” as Danny Noriega, his real name. Nina Bo’Nina Brown was in Season 9 and was the winner of the first “Miss Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve and Talent” pageant in the first episode of that run.
As for the Ultimate Miami Drag Queen contest, South Beach-based entertainer Tiffany Fantasia won the title and the $5,000 grand prize. The judges were NBC-6 anchor Roxanne Vargas; Tony Lima, director of LGBTQ rights organization S.A.V.E.; and 610-AM WIOD personality Manny Muñoz.
