8 Miami Swim Week fashion events open to the public

Staff Writer

No personal invitation = no getting past the velvet ropes.

That’s the way it is with much of Miami Swim Week, a marathon of fashion shows centered on swimsuits rolling into Miami Beach again this week, with thousands of manufacturers, buyers, designers, stylists, models and reporters.

It's really three different events: the business-oriented SwimShow trade show at the Miami Beach Convention Center; the luxe-boutique market Salon Allure at the W South Beach hotel; and the designer runway extravaganzas of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim at the Raleigh Hotel.

Unofficially, there are satellite events sprinkled throughout South Beach nightclubs, restaurants and hotels, much of it “industry-only” runway shows, product launches and afterparties.

I’ve compiled a few events that the public can attend. Some of them are even free.
