Author presents 'The Making of Nova Southeastern University'

In the 1960s, a group of Broward leaders who called themselves the Oatmeal Club regularly met to discuss the county’s future. Their idea to start a college produced Nova Southeastern University, now ranked the ninth largest not-for-profit private university in the United States.

This year, Nova is celebrating its 50thyear, growing from a storefront on Las Olas Boulevard to its main campus in Davie, with regional campuses around the state. Julian Pleasants’ book “The Making of Nova Southeastern University: A Tradition of Innovation, 1964-2014” covers the university from its beginnings to its present. Pleasants will discuss the book during a brunch and book signing from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 2 at Nova’s Alvin Sherman Library, Cotilla Gallery, 3100 Ray Ferrero Jr. Blvd., in Davie. Call 954-262-4627 or email Admission is free, but reservations must be made by Monday, Jan. 27.
