Marlins Park opens, April 4
The local baseball team debuts its pricey stadium in Little Havana to a national TV audience, which is treated to scenes that add a new chapter to the South Florida legend: a massive piece of folk-art zaniness by renowned sculptor-painter Red Grooms in center and topless women, lightly glazed in neon-colored paint, shimmying by the pool at the Clevelander bar in left.

Rod Hagwood: I could have sworn I was interviewing for "fashionable" editor back in 1990 when I applied for this job. I imagined I was just going to sashay around the newsroom wearing an array of fabulous designer ensembles. Imagine my disappointment when I found out my bosses wanted me to actually work...instead of working it.
