Bal Harbour’s interior designer extraordinaire David Bromstad conquered cable as a star on HGTV, so he’s a shoe-in for designing footwear.
The line – with prices between $25 and $89 – is available online at Naturalizer.com and hits stores March 1.
Bromstad took some time out to answer some questions of mine through email before leaving to tape a new series called “HGTV’d,” in which a different HGTV star will travel across America in an 18-wheeler, surprising fans with “high-impact, ingenious and visually stunning room designs,” according to his HGTV.com biography page:
Q. Does South Florida show up in the design collaboration with Naturalizer?
A. South Florida definitely does impact my collaboration with Naturalizer. The inspiration for my spring collection was bold florals – I included flowers from the Midwest where I grew up, as well as a hibiscus from Florida where I currently reside.
Q. What made you want to team up with Naturalizer to make accessories? Have you always had an interest in fashion?
A. I have always had an interest in fashion. I am a bit of a "fashionisto" and tend to make interesting choices in my wardrobe, whether that means I'll one day look back and laugh at the fashion choices of my past or not! At least I can say I was always daring. My desire to team with this fabulous company was such an unexpected opportunity. Naturalizer approached me and I couldn't have been more thrilled or honored. The idea of collaborating with such an iconic brand was and is such an inspiration. Having my artwork translated into shoes and accessories is a dream come true.
Q. What are you doing with HGTV (will “Design Star” return this summer? What about “Color Splash?”)?
A. I have some wonderful new and exciting adventures with HGTV coming in the near future. In fact, I will be leaving for LA in the coming weeks to begin filming a new competition reality show which will be airing this summer. So, David Bromstad is expanding his wings and flying into some exciting new HGTV television opportunities. Stay tuned.
