Macy's salutes Gordon Parks (Toni Parks-Parsons / February 15, 2013) |
As part of Black History Month, Macy's in Aventura Mall will honor Gordon Parks Saturday with the photographic art installation viewing of iconic works from the artist, composer, author ("The Learning Tree") and filmmaker ("Shaft").
Parks' life will be discussed by a panel that will include actor Lamman Rucker ("Tyler Perry's Meet The Browns") and WPLG-TV anchor Neki Mohan.
Afterward there will be a Soul Jam style dance party featuring the soul and funk music from the movie "Shaft" in the Fashion Store on level 2.
The salute starts Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Home Store on level 3 at Macy's at 19535 Biscayne Blvd. in Aventura.
The event is free and open to the public.
Rod Hagwood: I could have sworn I was interviewing for "fashionable" editor back in 1990 when I applied for this job. I imagined I was just going to sashay around the newsroom wearing an array of fabulous designer ensembles. Imagine my disappointment when I found out my bosses wanted me to actually work...instead of working it.
