Marilyn Monroe fashion line coming to Macy's
First the NBC musical drama series "Smash" paid homage to movie icon Marilyn Monroe.
Now Macy's is getting in on the act with a new line of clothing inspired by the late great actress and sex symbol.
The line hits stores - including the 17 or so from West Palm Beach down to Miami - in March. Expect a big campaign touting the retro flirty designs.
Soon you can shop the collection by visiting Macys.com/mstylelab.
How is this possible? Marilyn's estate is a subsidiary of and managed by Authentic Brands Group, which is overseeing the fashion line. They also have such labels as Judith Leiber, Adrienne Vittadini, Hickey Freeman and Hart Schaffner Marx in their stable. Marilyn Monroe Cafe opened in Canada, and a line of cosmetics came out last year from MAC.
“Marilyn Monroe’s appeal is legendary and Macy’s is excited to launch a collection that draws inspiration from her timeless style,” said Martine Reardon, Macy’s chief marketing officer. “This new line takes her unique sensibility, noteworthy silhouettes and colors of the time, and reinvents them for a modern-day Marilyn Monroe that is fun-loving, flirty and not afraid to play with fashion.”
Rod Hagwood: I could have sworn I was interviewing for "fashionable" editor back in 1990 when I applied for this job. I imagined I was just going to sashay around the newsroom wearing an array of fabulous designer ensembles. Imagine my disappointment when I found out my bosses wanted me to actually work...instead of working it.
