The contest is via a partnership between School of Rock and Deerfield Beach-based Tribut Apparel. I had a Q&A via email with Shanté S. Gordon-Armstrong director of marketing for Tribut Apparel:

What inspired you to start a scholarship to the School of Rock?

"We love that goal of the School of Rock program is to preserve the legacy of rock music and share it with the younger generation. Music is the heart and soul of our brand and working with them to offer local music students an opportunity to win a full performance scholarship for the fall season is really a no-brainer. Our goal is to help these students dig deep and discover their 'inner rock-star' in the hopes to jump start their dreams of being a musician one day. We're so lucky to have such a great partner in the School of Rock Coral Springs and West Broward locations."

What can participants look forward to during this fall’s School of Rock (any finalized plans)?

No finalized plans yet, but students can look forward to another successful semester developing their confidence and musicianship with the program. To date School of Rock West Broward and Coral Spings students have played thousands of concerts, to more than 100,000 people, at such legendary venues as CBGB's, The Trocadero, The Knitting Factory, The Whiskey, The Roxy, The Experience Music Project, The Big Easy and BB King's Blues Club in Times Square. This contest is the first step towards being one of those students."

What are your hopes or expectations for the submitted performance videos?

"Since Tribut apparel is an online store, our main objective is to get out into the community and build awareness for our brand by working with a local organization that shares our passion for music. We hope that the kids really get into the contest, find that creative that's deep inside them, and share their videos with their friends and family so that we can grow this program into something we offer multiple times a year, helping more students take that next step towards their dreams."
