This is the fourth time “Wicked” has come to the Broward Center, and you would be well within your rights to ask, “Why this time?” or even “Why again?”

Well, I’ll tell you. This time, the Broadway mega-hit road tour has Jeanna de Waal as Glinda and Christine Dwyer as Elphaba, and they are musical magic.

In this mash-up of “Mean Girls”-meets-”Charmed,” “Wicked” tells the story of what happened in Oz before Dorothy landed, house and all. The Wicked Witch of the West (Elphaba) and Glinda the Good were actually BFFs in college. They go on to fight a slew of ills: animal abuse, fear-mongering, disenfranchisement.

While the supporting cast are all excellent — seriously, they are — it is that friendship between two girls that centers the story and makes the fun-pun score by Stephen Schwartz zing.

Dwyer bounces over notes, playing with the melody and making it her own, while de Waal fairly vibrates with fizzy charisma before subtly darkening her tones as the story deepens.

Together, these two witches really sing.

“Wicked” runs through Feb. 17 at Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 S.W. Fifth Ave., in Fort Lauderdale.
