For Art Basel week in South Florida, artist Lars Jan and his custom-built aquarium will simulate a dystopian Miami, a city plunged underwater thanks to sea-level rise, melting glaciers and climate change.

Inside the multimedia artist's aquarium, an elevator-size water tank he calls "Holoscenes," people dressed in everyday clothing dance underwater, float as if in suspended animation and satisfy mundane tasks, such as reading a newspaper and tuning a guitar. In one of Jan's underwater scenarios, a man dressed in an orange hoodie, faded jeans and sneakers untangles a green garden hose.
