In summer 2005, when Melody Moyse visited southern India after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, she found children in survival mode, silent and weak, and certainly not ready to talk about the disaster that killed their parents and siblings. Moyse arrived with a medical team and a translator to Chennai, a ravaged town filled with a lower-caste population called Dalit, and helped feed, clothe and sing to the survivors.
