October is the month for walking pink, walking proud, walking sexy. There are boobs involved, and things can get a little over-the-top, which can create debate about taste and decorum.
Take Elsie Johns, for instance. She’s the owner of Melina’s Lingerie, a Hollywood Boulevard institution since the 1940s, where Miami artist Diana “Didi Rok” Contreras has been painting two 20-by-8-foot murals of pinup girls in the shop’s front windows.
Johns, 92, eyed the progress of Contreras, 35, for a few days before making her feelings known.
“She wanted them topless,” Contreras says, with a laugh. “Actually, she wanted them nude.”
