Getting there: Turn right at the four-way stop sign on Periwinkle Way (at the entrance to Sanibel, and after a stop at the excellent welcome station with a wealth of fliers, maps, shell guides and qualified personnel). After three miles on Periwinkle, there's a sign pointing the way to Captiva and Pine Ridge Road. Continue straight through another four-way stop sign, onto Sanibel-Captiva Road. Go about eight miles to a small bridge, which is the entrance to Captiva. Continue three miles to the only four-way stop on Captiva. Turn left onto Andy Rosse Lane to the inn; the office is on the right.

Rates: $99-$270 with special discounts during summer months.

Information: Contact the Captiva Island Inn, 11509 Andy Rosse Lane, Captiva Island, FL 33924; call 800-454-9898 or check the Web at www.captivaislandinn.com.
