Baltimore Maritime Museum
Pier 3, Pratt St., Inner Harbor

You won't just feel like you are on a boat when you visit Baltimore's tribute to modern maritime technology, you actually will be on a boat. Three of them, to be exact. The Baltimore Maritime Museum is composed of three historic ships: the Coast Guard Cutter Roger B. Taney, the USS Torsk and the Lightship Chesapeake. The Roger B. Taney, located at Pier 4, is the only warship that saw action during the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The cutter successfully defended the Honolulu Power Plant, and went on to play a major role in World War II, the Korean and Vietnam wars, and also in the drug war, seizing more than 180 tons of marijuana during her tour of duty. The USS Torsk, a WWII submarine, served NATO in the Lebanon Crisis of 1960 and enforced the blockade in the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. The Torsk has racked up an astounding 11,884 career dives during her half-century lifetime. The Lightship Chesapeake, commissioned in 1930, started out as a communications and weather center in Delaware, but was transferred in 1933 to the Chesapeake Bay to warn incoming ships. The Torsk and the Chesapeake are located on Pier 3, by the National Aquarium. Don't miss the boat. Pay tribute to these three famous ships and learn more about Baltimore's rich maritime history.--Kari Rosenthal
