BEST GAY BAR

You might well wonder how the bar in a gay hotel can possibly compete with Miami Beach gay bars that focus solely on gayliciousness. Well, the answer is Hotel Gaythering’s lobby bar has a friendlier vibe than the others.
“It’s definitely a new form of a gay bar,” says Alex Guerra, who co-owns Hotel Gaythering with his life partner, Stephan Ginez. “People kept thinking South Beach was over for gay people. It’s just that what they want has changed. And that is what we aimed to do with the hotel. One of the things we think is being appreciated by people is that it is different. You feel like you’re at a friend’s house.”
The couple bought the building eight years ago and opened the hotel 3 1/2 years ago (its fourth anniversary is this February). Something different happens every night here: Sunday Funday is all about sports (they host a sports league with more than 200 guys) and a free barbecue at 2 p.m. with bar games; Karaoke Monday is hosted by local drag star Tiffany Fantasia; 2-4-1 Two’s-days also includes 2-4-1 with the sauna in the hotel’s spa; Wednesday’s Trivia Night is hosted by Guerra and is usually packed; Throw Back Thursday features music videos from past decades; Friday’s Bears and Hares (the hotel’s mascots) is the weekly party that first got Hotel Gaythering noticed; Saturday will become the day for rotating monthly parties in 2018.
