South Florida family events: Kids Day at the MLB FanFest, art events, stage shows

Baseball fans are in for a huge weekend with the MLB All-Star Fanfest at the Miami Beach Convention Center, 1901 Convention Center Drive. The FanFest runs Friday through Tuesday, starting with a Kids Day on Friday. Throughout the day, kids can participate in baseball and softball clinics, skills games, a kids home run derby, a kids press conference with a MLB Legend and much more. Saturday and Sunday are Latino Heritage Weekend days, and several All-Star games are scheduled Sunday at Marlins Park. FanFest tickets are $35, or $30 for ages 3-12, but an online BOGO ticket offer is available for Friday (

1. Shakespeare By The Sea, Thursday through Sunday. Watch “Love’s Labour’s Lost” under the stars. 7:30-10 p.m. Seabreeze Amphitheater, Carlin Park, 400 Florida A1A, Jupiter. Free.

2. “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown,” Thursday through July 15. The Broadway revival version is performed at various times at the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 SW Fifth Ave., Fort Lauderdale. $10.

3. No Bodies Crew Interactive Break-Dance Troupe, Thursday. See acrobatic moves and exciting choreography at 10 a.m. and noon Thursday at the Sunrise Civic Center Theatre, 10610 W. Oakland Park Blvd., Sunrise. $7.

4. “Disney's Beauty and The Beast,” through July 9. The Broadway musical closes its run at The Wick this weekend, with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. and evening shows Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7901 N. Federal Highway, Boca Raton. (Read a review here.) Tickets $45-$85.

5. First Thursdays: Starry Nights, Thursday. Enjoy the exhibits and hands-on art projects from 4 to 8 p.m. at the NSU Art Museum, 1 E. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale.

6. Superhero Splash Bash and Splashtacular Family Friday: Superheroes Night, Friday. Hit the pool for games, a movie, splash time and superhero photo opps Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach ($6, 6-10 p.m.) and T-Y Park in Hollywood ($7, 6-8 p.m.).

7. Liverpool Live, Friday. Bring blankets and lawn chairs to hear free performances by the School of Rock House Band and a Beatles tribute band starting at 7:30 p.m. at Mizner Park Amphitheater, 590 Plaza Real, Boca Raton.

8. First Fridays at Surfside. Art, music, crafts Americana-style from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Surfside Ocean Front Pool Center, 9301 Collins Ave., Surfside.

9. Fast Lane Fridays. Watch cars zoom down the track starting at 6 p.m. at the Homestead Miami Speedway, 1 Speedway Blvd., Homestead. Adults, $10; ages 12 and under, free.

10. Frost First Fridays Laser Show. Listen to Pink Floyd, Lady Gaga, The Beatles and more while watching laser light visuals in the dome of the Frost Planetarium from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. and use telescopes to stargaze on the Lunar Terrace. $8-$10. 11. Miami Dolphins Heads Up Football Mom’s Clinic, Saturday. The free annual Mom’s Clinic at the Dolphins’ training facility at NSU in Davie includes information about nutrition, heat and hydration, equipment fitting to reduce injury and interactive drills that show proper Heads Up Football tackling techniques. Guest speakers include professional trainers and former Dolphin Twan Russell. The clinic is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the training facility at 7500 SW 30th St. in Davie. RSVP at

12. Creative Kitchen Kids Food Fest, Saturday. Learn about healthy eating, watch cooking demonstrations and play a grocery game from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Miami Children’s Museum, 980 MacArthur Causeway, Miami. Regular admission rates apply.

13. Cultural Folk Tales Day, Saturday. Global storytelling, crafts and activities from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens, 4000 Morikami Park Road, Delray Beach. $9-$15.

14. Back To School Health and Family Fair, Saturday. Event includes uniform and backpack distribution from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fuchs Pavilion, Miami-Dade County Fair Expo Center, 10901 SW 24th St., Miami.

17. Family Day, Saturday. Kid-friendly museum tour, arts and craft activities, a musical performance and a gallery scavenger hunt from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Coral Gables Museum, 285 Aragon Ave., Coral Gables.

18. ARTful Adventure, Saturday. Create African masks in a workshop led by experienced art educators from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Boca Raton Museum of Art, 501 Plaza Real, Boca Raton. $5 per family.

19. “Waking Sleeping Beauty,” Sunday. A fun, G-rated look at the fairytale classic at the Willow Theatre, Sugar Sand Park, 300 S. Military Trail, Boca Raton. $6-$8 includes carousel token, juice and cookies.

20. BBQ for Those Who Serve, Sunday.
