Bodybuilders flocking to Miami? Wodapalooza is starting, but what is it?

Downtown Miami residents and visitors may start wondering “what’s with all those bodybuilders at Bayfront Park this week?”

They and other extremely fit people will be in town for Wodapalooza fitness festival (Wod standing for “Workout of the day”) which takes place Thursday through Sunday at the park (301 Biscayne Blvd).

The event kicked off in 2012 in Miami with 150 athletes and has since grown to 1,600 competitors, according to organizers.

The athletes, who range in age from 13 to 70, will compete in nine CrossFit-like workouts such as barbell lifts and pull ups as well as a swim in Biscayne Bay. There will also be 150 booths and workshops focused on fitness, growth and inspiration as well as food and deejays.

But what caught our attention was the so-called “100 LB Coupon Challenge.’’ Using social media, folks will have to find a 100-pound coupon on the park’s grounds and lug it back to the Second Skin booth. The coupon is for 100 percent off the purchase of the sport apparel brand’s gear up to $500.

Expected to be on hand for the festival are Hunter McIntyre, a pro obstacle course racer and Christmas Abbott, a CrossFit celebrity and a former cast member of CBS’s “Big Brother” from its 19th season.

Tickets for the event start at $45 for a single day pass and run $90 for three-day passes.
