Basement Miami, the buzzed-about entertainment venue in Ian Schrager’s Miami Beach Edition hotel, will kick off El Sótano, a series of monthly Latin dance parties, on Thursday, July 6, hosted by TV personality Wilmer Valderrama.
The event is an official after party for Univision's “Premios Juventud,” the youth-oriented, pop-culture awards show being broadcast live Thursday night at the Watsco Center at the University of Miami, so you don’t know who might show up. Valderrama is scheduled to take part at “Premios Juventud,” and nominees for the awards include Camila Cabello, Daddy Yankee, J Balvin, Luis Fonsi, Ricky Martin, Shakira, Wisin, Nicky Jam and Marc Anthony.
DJ Africa, DJ Flow and Mario Duran will do the music Thursday night at Basement Miami, beginning at 11 p.m. Seventeen is the over-under on the number of times “Despacito” is played.
The Miami-born Valderrama turned a supporting role as Fez on the hit “That 70’s Show” into a steady career in film and TV both behind and in front of the camera. He also is a board member of Voto Latino, a nonprofit organization that encourages civic engagement by American Latino millennials.
The 6,300-square-foot Basement includes a nightclub, bowling alley and ice-skating rink, all bumping to a state-of-the-art sound system. Schrager, of course, was the man behind New York’s iconic Studio 54. For more information, visit BasementMiami.com and PremiosJuventud.com.
