Good afternoon, South Florida. Can I hitch a ride to Jupiter?

1. Stars and Gardens

This weekend saw Jazz in the Gardens bring Esperanza Spalding, the Roots, Betty Wright and Andra Day, among others, to Hard Rock Stadium. That's Spalding in the photo above, one of many killer shots taken at the festival by's Barbara Corbellini Duarte.

2. Ain't them bodies saints

St. Patrick's Day -- the real one this time -- was celebrated in Fort Lauderdale this past Friday night by an expected horde of green-wearing and green-beer-drinking revelers. Duarte and her camera again provide a reason to click.

3. Under the Banyan

Claire Perez reviews Banyan Restaurant and Bar in Delray Beach, where the servers are probably more honest than the owners would like. "While our table was still filled with half-eaten appetizers," Perez writes, "food runners appeared with our entrees. They stood tableside and wide-eyed as if we were to make space for them. Our server caught on, shooed them away and said, 'It’s all a mess back there.' That’s not particularly how you want to envision the kitchen that is preparing your food. The server later blamed a faulty printer for the disorder, but we weren’t interested in excuses."

4. Mr. Holland's opus

Ben Crandell reports that Dutch DJ Tiësto plans to sell "apparel and luxury goods chosen by the dance-music icon" at a pop-up shop beginning this Thursday on Lincoln Road. I'm a one-zipper-per-leather-jacket guy, so I'll pass. The temporary store coincides with Tiësto's visit to South Florida for Ultra Music Festival and Miami Music Week, the former taking place at Bayfront Park and the latter occurring throughout the city and beyond. Talia J. Medina recommends 12 Miami Music Week parties, should you care to know what the city looks like from the window of a nightclub at 5 a.m.

5. The beast that ate South Florida

In his latest Eat Beat blog post, Mike Mayo looks back on the 2017 South Beach Wine and Food Festival, his first as's dining writer and critic. "It is a glorious beast, a tasty beast, a charitable and well-meaning beast," Mayo writes. "But there is room for improvement."
