Friday: Steve Martin with the Steep Canyon Rangers and Edie Brickell at Kravis Center

The man who imparted sound advice as Navin Johnson in "The Jerk" ("Lord loves a workin' man"; "don't trust Whitey"; "see a doctor and get rid of it") has spent the past few years with a rowdy bluegrass band. Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers is his outfit now, and he's still plucking a banjo, something his longtime fans have seen him do since his career-launching stint on "Saturday Night Live" in the 1970s. "Love Has Come for You" is Martin's latest album, recorded with the Steep Canyon Rangers and singer-songwriter Edie Brickell. Lyrics from the lead single, "When You Get to Asheville," show that Martin can still lay down a tasteful joke along with a beguiling banjo ditty: "When you get to Asheville/Send me an email/Tell me how you're doing." It is, of course, a modern sentiment in an old-fashioned song. Martin will perform Friday night with the Steep Canyon Rangers and Brickell at the Kravis Center. Tickets start at $35. 561-832-7469 or
