Top events to do Friday: From comedy to kawaii

Gilbert Gottfried: The acerbic comic, the voice of Iago from "Aladdin" as well as the Aflac duck, has been known to mouth off on controversial issues on his Twitter feed, @RealGilbert. He came under fire two years ago when he joked about the Japanese tsunami and earthquake. "Why did the word call a meeting of the other words? He wanted to make sure they were all on the same page," he tweeted on Wednesday, proving that Twitter is likewise a forum for his tamer one-liners. He performs at 8 and 10:30 p.m. Friday at the Palm Beach Improv (550 S Rosemary Ave., Suite 250, West Palm Beach). $22, includes two-drink minimum. 561-833-1812 or — Phillip Valys

Super Kawaii! "Kawaii," a Japanese word that roughly translates to "cute" and "charming," may be an apt description for the sultry cosplayers descending on the Green Room's nerdy party. Joining the fray of latexed ladies and electronica-spinning DJs is Alexia Jean Gray, a professional cosplay model and gamer who is fond of anime and body paint. She'll proudly display those costumed assets on Friday night, her birthday, during an event that will feature sounds from DJs Lindersmash and Kaos. 10 p.m.-4 a.m. with half-priced drinks until midnight. 954-449-1030 or — Phillip Valys

Robby Krieger's Jam Kitchen: Hippies and fans of Jim Morrison may want to check out this Friday night concert featuring the former Doors guitarist and his psychedelic rock band. The show, which will start at 7:30 p.m. at the Culture Room (3045 N. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale), will showcase some of the Doors' best songs. Krieger helped to pen hits such as "Light My Fire," "Love Me Two Times" and "Love Her Madly." Also expect improvisational jams that will take you back to 1960s. $20. 954-564-1074 or — Micaela Hood
