For all the beauty and partying that accompany the Pegasus World Cup Invitational, which was run on Jan. 27 at Gulfstream Park Racing and Casino (901 S. Federal Highway, Hallandale Beach, 954-454-7000, GulfstreamPark.com), it exists because of numbers.

Gun Runner won by 2 1/2 lengths, earning $7 million in the world’s richest horserace. A 4-5 favorite, the 2017 Horse of the Year finished the 1 1/8-mile course in 1:47.41. Each of the 12 horses paid $1 million to compete. Gulfstream paid out $16.3 million overall.

The day’s handle for all 12 races hit $42 million. It was the largest one-day handle in Gulfstream’s 79-year history, excluding when it hosted the Breeders’ Cup (in 1989, ’92 and ’99). Approximately 16,400 people attended.

The total handle for the three-day weekend was $81.2 million.
