After Miami kicked it out of Bayfront Park, Ultra Music Festival may move to Virginia Key

One month after Miami city commissioners ejected the Ultra Music Festival from its longtime home at Bayfront Park, organizers of the electronic music festival may have found a new home: Virginia Key.

Festival organizers say they’re negotiating a contract to stage the popular EDM bash, returning March 29-31, 2019, at two sites on the island, according to the Miami Herald.

The Herald report says a proposed contract could be finalized as soon as Nov. 15, when city commissioners are tentatively scheduled to vote on relocating Ultra.

Russell Faibisch, Ultra’s co-founder and CEO, told the Herald that part of the proposed deal includes a budget to construct an African American Museum at the beach park. Virginia Key was the only beach that granted access to African Americans during segregation in the 1940s and ’50s.
