American Craft Beer Week: Due South anniversary and countless tap takeovers

A heavy lineup marks American Craft Beer Week in South Florida, where only last year there were few celebrations across the three counties.

The "Mother of All Beer Weeks," as it's known in fan circles across the U.S., will go on May 13-19.

For a full list of events, and full it is, see Brown Distributing's Facebook note. Below, find recommendations for the best happenings starting Sunday, May 12. Details will be added as they become available.

Due South Brewing's first anniversary celebration will start at 2 p.m. and feature special tappings of "one-time only" brews. Food trucks will be on site, beer tickets will be required for all purchases, and staff recommends carpooling or taking Tri-Rail to Boynton Beach. See event details on the brewery's Facebook page.

Yardbird in Miami Beach will release a special firkin, basically a small keg, of Cigar City Brewing's white-oak blueberry IPA at 6 p.m. See the restaurant's Facebook post.

The 595 Tap and Tavern's taps will be taken over by a slew of double IPAs and Dogfish Head's Randall the Enamel Animal, called a Randall for short. It's not a beer -- it's a filtration system that allows bars to pour a regular brew with added herb notes and extra flavors. Tap takeover starts at 7 p.m.

JG McGuinness in Weston will also employ a Randall during its rare Dogfish Head tap takeover night, starting at 7.

America's Backyard, meanwhile, will host Gold Coast Distributing as they celebrate the South Florida launch of the Georgia-based Sweetwater Brewing Company. Party starts at 4:20 p.m. with free beer, including the brewery's 420 extra pale ale. 100 SW Third Ave., Fort Lauderdale, 954-449-9569.

The Lion and Eagle Pub in Boca Raton will hold an East Coast vs. West Coast tap takeover at 5 p.m.

Barley and Swine in South Miami will offer an aged Dogfish Head dinner at 8 p.m. The soon-to-open restaurant in the downtown Dadeland area will charge $60 for this five-course menu.

The Mack House in Fort Lauderdale will pour Holy Mackerel ales only available at the microbatch brewpub.

Bash American Bistro in Sunrise will pit four rare Cigar City brews against four rare brews from across the country, and will offer food pairings, as well.

All World of Beer locations will set aside this night for some favorites from Dogfish Head, including Positive Contact, Noble Rot and the Sixty-One Minute IPA starting at 6.

DB Bistro Moderne in downtown Miami will serve a Brewery Ommegang dinner at 6 p.m.

The Riverside Market's owner Julian Siegel will share his stash of Cigar City brews. With the Tampa brewery's rise in popularity and the growth of beer trading circles, Cigar City products are in high demand, and apparently, Siegel has the supply.

The Old School Square in Delray Beach will host a beer festival from 6-10 p.m., and Coffee District will be open for the afterparty with beer specials till closing time.
