Michael Schwartz rebrands Miami restaurant

Cypress Room now called Cypress Tavern

Cypress Tavern

3620 NE Second Ave., Miami, 305-520-5197,

After two years, James Beard Award-winning chef Michael Schwartz has tweaked the name of his fine-dining Cypress Room in the Design District to reflect a brasserie-style rebranding.

"We thought it was important to create a more welcoming experience," he says. "The menus are more approachable and offer more options at a better price point than the fine-dining approach."

Highlights include wood-grilled giant prawn ($17-$24), French onion soup ($12), The Cypress Burger with onion marmalade ($22), spit-fired half chicken ($28) and chocolate pot de crème ($12). Spicy eggs en cocotte ($14) is a standout for weekend brunch.

A bevy of new cocktails, divided by brunch ($11) and dinner ($12-$14), include US1 & 75th with prosecco and bourbon.

The pecky cypress wood, crystal chandeliers and tufted sky-blue banquettes are still here, but the tablecloths are gone, and instead of silver platters, checks are presented on old Florida postcards designed from photos on the wall. The mounted deer heads were shooed out, but the boar still smirks in the back.

Dinner is served daily, except Mondays, plus weekend brunch.
