Autumn is officially here, which means it is time to hoist steins of beer. Oktoberfest season is upon us and with it comes lager, brats, lederhosen and oompah bands. Here is a guide to upcoming South Florida events celebrating the German fall festival. Prost! And remember that Uber, Lyft, taxis and designated drivers are your friends.
Oakland Park/Funky Buddha
When: Oct. 5-7. 6-11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5; 1-11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6; and 1-7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7

Overview: The 14th edition of Oakland Park’s party is held in conjunction with nearby Funky Buddha Brewery, and will feature family-friendly fun including music, food, an apple-strudel-eating contest, a dog fashion show and the signature Central Bark Dachshund Dash wiener dog race. Laudy Local Brewers/Birch State Park
When: 2-7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 6
Where: Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, 3109 E. Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale
Tickets: $10 at Eventbrite.com/LaudyBrewers, plus $6 park entrance fee. Food and beverages additional.
Overview: Local craft breweries and Park & Ocean restaurant are teaming up for Oktoberfest within bucolic Birch State Park, where open space will be transformed into German-style villages with biergartens, festive decor and a tented dining area. Bratwurst, pretzels, burgers and grilled chicken sandwiches will be available, along with beers from six local brewers: Flagler Village Brewery, Gulf Stream Brewing Company, Invasive Species Brewing, Khoffner Brewery USA, LauderAle and Tarpon River Brewing.
American German Club of the Palm Beaches
When: Oct 12-14 and Oct. 19-21. 5-11 p.m. Fridays, noon-11 p.m. Saturdays and noon-8 p.m. Sundays
Where: American German Club of the Palm Beaches, 5111 Lantana Road, Lake Worth
Overview: This festival is for people looking for an authentic Oktoberfest that goes beyond beer racing and chugging. The American German Club’s 45th Oktoberfest will feature traditional folk dancing and music, German bands and a beauty pageant. There will also be carnival rides and a flag parade.
