Argentine fusion in Fort Lauderdale

New Argentina fusion cafe opens in east Fort Lauderdale

Buenos Aires Cafe

2364 N. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, 954-900-3361, BuenosAiresCafe.co

Claudio Kojusner, owner of La Estancia Argentina in Aventura and Clos Bistro & Café in Miami, has partnered with Andres Starkand to debut this hybrid café serving three meals daily in Union Planters Plaza.

They retained the rustic décor of the former d.b.a./café with brick walls and pressed tin ceiling and added some earthy elements. Umbrellas shade sidewalk seating.

"The restaurant is a fusion between the famous Argentinian grill and exquisite traditional dishes and the classic American favorites," says Starkand, who sold his Piu Bello Gelato in Puerto Rico to open another with Kojusner in Plantation this fall. "We aim to please the well-educated gourmet palate in east Fort Lauderdale."

Signatures include the Mediterranean platter with hummus, baba ghanoush, tahini, Turkish salad, falafel and pita ($18), picanha steak ($17), gnocchi asiago ($14) and pan-seared mahi over herbed quinoa ($19). Healthy choices include quinoa salad ($16) and bean salad with chickpeas ($14) while three parrillada options offer mixed meats ($28, $48) or veggies ($19).

And, yes, they feature Piu Bello Gelato ($4 per scoop.)
