The owners of Son Cubano have converted their Cuban-Asian fusion fare to this new concept with global cuisine.

“Latin flavors are prevalent in Coral Gables and not to mention a cuisine that is eaten at home all week,” owner Kevin Gouchee says. “We felt that a different menu and decor would be a better fit. It’s an upbeat dining experience with a DJ spinning engaging music. Coral Gables has a lot of great restaurants, bistros, and a few lounges, but there seems to be none that offers both.”

Highlights include duck confit tacos with sauce à l’orange ($12), alligator corn dogs ($12), flat meatballs called polpette ($14), wild mushroom and truffle puffs ($14), wild boar medallions with a citrus and chili glaze ($24), bison and boar Bolognese ($26) and Korean barbecued half chicken with purple sticky rice ($26).

Whiskey laces the S+F cocktail with amaretto, lemon and egg-white foam and the Kumquat Whiskey Sour (both $13).

A take on strawberry shortcake offers a luscious twist with seven layers ($9).

Lunch and dinner are served daily in a 1925 historic corner building with a few sidewalk tables.

“The decor is more trendy and edgy with local artists’ works displayed, industrial elements of brick, wood, brass and crystal chandeliers with a cozier feel,” Gouchee says. “The front layout is conducive for after-work happy hours or group gatherings.”

A staircase leads to a swanky lounge with plush seating, called Room 25. DJs spin Fridays and Saturdays.
