The wait is over for fans of this burgeoning New York-based international burger chain. Broward has finally joined Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties with its own Shack.
“We were just waiting to find the perfect spot,” says general manager Paco Marrero, referring to the former Spring Chicken space. “We’re always hearing from our guests asking us to bring a Shack to their neighborhood. We’re humbled by the passion people have for our brand.”
Selections vary by location, Marrero says. “We love to work with local purveyors on a custom menu of concretes — frozen custard desserts — as well as local beers. The Fort Lauderdale Shack will serve a Pie Oh My concrete, featuring seasonal pie from the Good Pie and brews from local breweries: Wynwood Brewing Co., Due South Brewing Co. and Funky Buddha Brewery.”
The SmokeShack with bacon and cherry peppers ($7.19, single; $9.99, double) is a highlight among the all-natural Angus burgers, while the fried portobello ’Shroom Burger with two cheeses ($7.19) is a tasty option for vegetarians. Hot dogs include beef and apple sage chicken ($3.59-$4.99).
“Each Shack is designed to reflect the area it’s in. We want it to feel distinctive and special to that community,” Marrero says. “This Fort Lauderdale Shack features both indoor and outdoor plant trellises, an outdoor patio with ample seating and a very unique, geometric-patterned wall [with] colors reflecting South Florida’s tropical nature.”
Up next: a Miami location in Brickell in the spring.
