Norman Van Aken, the legendary father of fusion cuisine hailing from the Mango Gang, has returned to South Florida after seven years to unveil his third New World cuisine restaurant in Wynwood Arcade, joining locations in Orlando and Mount Dora.
Three refers to triple components: the restaurant, the No. 3 Social wood-deck rooftop lounge and a cooking school.
The prix fixe-only menu features the Van Aken classic of cracked conch chowder with coconut milk.
“Our format allows us to offer more flavors since the portions are more tightly focused, and that gives us the canvas to take our guests on a gustatory tour,” Van Aken says.
Fish tiradito and roasted duck are a couple of choices on a three-course option for $60 and four courses for $75. Dessert, such as pineapple tres leches cake, is an additional $12. However, seven courses for $125 includes dessert.
Dinner is served nightly, except Mondays, amid a contemporary ambiance of peacock-blue walls and chairs, green-velvet-tufted banquettes and gold accents. The open kitchen features a marble chef’s counter.
A DJ spins Friday and Saturday on the hip, beachy rooftop. Weekend brunch and a la carte lunch will launch around the New Year.
