When Mary Siragusa and her pastry chef daughter, Francesca Siragusa, opened Fresh First in 2013, they claimed their cafe was the first gluten-free restaurant in South Florida. Fresh First changed hands in November 2015 to Tarso and Eliana Teixeria. The restaurant remains 100 percent gluten-free – employees are not even allowed to bring in gluten foods for snack breaks. Since the new ownership, Fresh First has updated the menu to include even more vegan dishes, such as waffles, pancakes and cupcakes.
Fresh First serves breakfast and lunch Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The gluten-free, vegan-friendly eatery serves dishes such as nut chili tacos ($10.95), served with nut chili, red peppers, green onions, carrots and cauliflower in cabbage wraps. Most soups, salads and bowls are vegan-friendly, and cost no more than $12.95.
