You're probably not going to beat him, but at least you can run for a while with a two-time Boston Marathon champ.
Geoff Smith will lead a three-mile jaunt at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at Runner's Edge, 3195 N. Federal Highway, in Boca Raton. The workout will be sandwiched between a Q and A, which will begin at 4 p.m., and an informal talk about his life, career and running, which will start at 7.
The run is free, and the talks are open to the public.
Local runners who have qualified for the Boston Marathon are invited to appear in a photo with Smith at the start of the run.
Smith won the Boston Marathon in 1984 and 1985, and is one of only three people to win the race in consecutive years. Smith, who now lives in Mattapoisett, Mass., competed in the Olympics for Great Britain in the 10,000 meters in 1980 and the marathon in 1984. He is in South Florida visiting friends.
