PHOTOS | Christo and Jean-Claude create "Surrounded Islands" in Miami Beach, 1983

Thirty-five years ago, the artist-wife team of Christo and Jeanne-Claude covered Miami's Biscayne Bay in a breathtaking display: 11 islands, each dressed in millions of yards of hot-pink fabric. Flip through these photos to see how the epic "Surrounded Islands" project, which took three years and $3.1 million, came together. The Perez Art Museum Miami will revisit the landmark exhibit with scale models and archival images with its new show "Christo and Jeanne-Claude: Surrounded Islands, Biscayne Bay, Greater Miami, Florida, 1980-83: A Documentary Exhibition," opening Thursday, Oct. 4.
