Eye on Puerto Rico's 'fragile' country

"Beatriz Santiago Muñoz: A Universe of Fragile Mirrors"

The films by Puerto Rican artist Beatriz Santiago Muñoz – short, experimental, and shot using only local, nonprofessional actors – are as bizarre as they are controversial. Taking her video camera into Puerto Rico's disenfranchised, environmentally threatened areas, Muñoz spotlights a notorious artist (he describes his craft with interpretive dance); a popular Haitian market; an anarchist collective from San Francisco; and a newly discovered burial ground for indigenous tribes. Her collection of documentary-style videos, which combine theater and performance art, also include the debut of a new art video, "Marche Salomon."
