"Dixie's Tupperware Party" comes to Kravis Center in West Palm Beach

Staff Writer

You might say Dixie Longate is a part-time woman but a full-time Tupperware diva.

The drag persona of Kris Andersson will bring his, um, one-woman show “Dixie’s Tupperware Party” to West Palm Beach’s Kravis Center for the Performing Arts Tuesday through Saturday, Jan. 28 – Feb. 1.

Aside from being a Southern-fried, audience-interactive comedy, many people are surprised that the performance is a real Tupperware-selling event.

“Aren’t people stupid?” Longate asks in a telephone interview in Huntsville, Ala., where she is playing before coming to SoFlo. “Yes, it’s a real-life, 100-percent Tupperware party. I didn’t want it to be some lecture about a bowl. I wanted it to be a real party and get everybody up and active and have more fun than you can shake a stick at. And you know when you’re shaking a stick, you’re having fun. I was shaking a stick in my trailer the other day and just having all kinds of fun. The cat started looking at me funny. I said, ‘Stop licking yourself, and get off the counter.’ “

Longate’s antics have made her a top seller of the brand and a mega star at Tupperware’s annual conventions, called Jubilees. “I’ve been No. 1 two different times, but I’ve fallen a little bit in my ranking,” Longate says. “Can you imagine that?”

One of the highlights of the show is Longate’s imaginative alternative uses for Tupperware products.

“I didn’t know Tupperware was supposed to be used in the kitchen for two years,” Longate says. “I had it beside my bed. But I’m not one to say not to take Jell-O shots to church or have a wine opener in the car.”

“Dixie's Tupperware Party” will run Jan. 28 through Feb. 1 at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, 701 Okeechobee Blvd., in West Palm Beach. Showtimes are  7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, with 1:30 p.m. matinees Thursday and Saturday. Tickets start at $35. Call 561-832-7469 or go to
