Underground Lauderdale Fashion Weekend was a showcase for up-and-coming designers.
The runway shows and fashion presentations were staged in FAT Village in downtown Fort Lauderdale, and the event included a “pop-up” marketplace where fashion fans could buy looks from local designers.
Nina Garcia, a “Project Runway” judge and “Marie Claire” magazine’s creative director, said: “This event means a lot to me, because I am a big believer in the local to global trend. So it’s really about supporting the local designer. It’s about supporting the see-now, buy-now initiative.”
Garcia was a host for the opening night, and introduced established designer Nicole Miller’s catwalk caper on Friday, March 31.
On Saturday, April 1, there was a slate of events, from live model presentations by fashion labels Saunder and Descendant of Thieves to runway shows by Zoey Reva (a Miami-based designer) and Alice and Trixie (by New York-based designer Angela George). There was also a live-model vignette “art-a-porter” presentation curated by downtown diva and event producer Susanne Bartsch, who also threw the finale celebration.
