Beaching boys will be wearing swim shorts for 2019. So it’s bye-bye big, ol’ baggy board shorts and sayonara super-long surfer jams.
Sure, you’ll be able to find those looks in stores next year, but what is new from swimwear designers and manufacturers for guys are shorts that reach to midthigh and have a much more fitted silhouette.
That’s the headline from SwimShow, the largest swimwear trade show in the world presented by the Swimwear Association of Florida at the Miami Beach Convention Center. The trade show is a part of Miami Swim Week, an umbrella term for a week in July when the swimsuit industry congregates in South Beach for a spate of runway shows, nightclub parties, product launches, showroom tours and designer dinners.
Here’s what else is new in dude’s swim duds.
• Boxing trunk waistbands with drawstring closures
• Bright pastels
• Popular prints include op art, geometric abstracts, retro vintage/photo kitsch and animal stripes (in neon hues)
• Coordinating coverups (especially white gauzy drawstring pants, guayabera shirts and preppy polos)
• Quick-drying performance microfibers
