For students, summertime can mean throwing down the books and taking up the stage.

Here are some theater events over the next few days that are tailored toward young people.


"Footloose" - Presented by students from the Arts Garage Performing Arts School, the musical centers on the power of dance and is based on the hit 1984 movie starring Kevin Bacon. 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. $15 and $20. 561-450-6357 or


"Punch and Judy, and the Three Sillies" - The Sol Children Theatre Troupe's play for young people is a mash-up of everything from Laurel & Hardy and the Three Stooges to English folktales and 17th Century puppet shows. 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. $12 ($8 for juniors 11 and younger). 561-447-8829 or


"Oklahoma" - The students at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre Paul and Sandra Goldner Conservatory of Performing Arts take on the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical about farmers versus ranchers on the plains at the turn of the century. 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at Jupiter Community High School, 500 North Military Trail in Jupiter. "11th annual Cappies Awards" - The Tonys for high school theater in Broward and Palm Beach counties features songs and scenes from the top nominated shows. Leading the pack: J.P. "Sleepwalk" - Humor, pathos and vivid imagination combine in this play about the trauma of the teenage years, spotlighting a cast aged 15 to 25.
