Art by Nelson Mandela to go on view in Miramar

After he served time as a prisoner on Robben Island, after he resigned as president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela documented his long walk to freedom as an artist.

In a collection of drawings and paintings capturing the place where Mandela was incarcerated for 18 years, a penal colony prone to shipwrecks off the coast of Cape Town, Robben Island is remembered in the new exhibit "Mandela's Legacy."

The anti-apartheid icon's charcoal and acrylic lithographs will be on view starting Monday, Feb. 2, in the Ansin Family Art Gallery at the Miramar Cultural Center.
